Stevens Pass has created a high environmental standard in the fundamental belief that stewardship and service are intertwined, and governed by the following environmental philosophy:
Environmental responsibility is the highest level of guest service.
At the heart of this philosophy is the belief that by protecting the world we live, work, and recreate in, we are able to serve our guests in a manner that reaches far beyond a lift ticket and a smile.
Stevens Pass will enrich the mountain environment for generations to come by living and working in a sustained, healthy environment that does as little harm as possible to the environment, while providing a rich alpine recreational experience.
Building a Sustainable Future
Stewardship · Sustainability · Responsibility · Integrity · Innovation
The following five disciplines provide the roadmap for our actions:
Stewardship – Care for the land. Encourage sensitive and innovative environmental interaction that is in harmony with the well-being of wildlife, plants, soils, water systems, and the climate.
Sustainability – Support programs that reduce impact to the physical landscape. Reduce sediment and run-off impacts on the stream and river complexes east and west of the Cascade crest. Develop new areas, and operate in existing areas, only without compromising ecological health.
Responsibility – Reuse, reduce, and recycle everything possible. Create the infrastructure that encourages employees and guests to be responsible for their impacts and waste while on the mountain. Educate employees and guests. Promote an environmental responsibility code.
Integrity – Because pursuing sustainability is simply the right thing to do. Recognize that the right way is not always the easiest and/or the cheapest way. Use environmentally safe products and do business with companies sharing similar values.
Innovation – Continue to develop and implement new conservation ideas and strategies. Encourage creative solutions. Seize opportunities for research. Support new environmental technology. Never say we have done enough.
